Planet Aves was once the homeworld of the penguins. Aves was in the Zeta Sector, the smallest region of the EdgeWorlds and took its name from the Aves Belt, a region of planets housing avian-like species. Icy terrain dominated the world, interspersed with a few pockets of tropical warmth.

No one is certain what caused the planet to disappear. Despite the absence of rubble, scientists believe something destroyed the planet. Some transmissions about an attack spread to nearby systems before the planet went silent. The nature of the alleged attack remains a mystery. The penguin homeworld is gone, and the entire species, along with all penguin sub-species, has almost entirely vanished. No one is sure how many remain. Since penguins stayed within their own system, most of the population died with the planet. According to some experts, the penguin population in the EdgeWorlds is estimated to be below 10,000.
