Despite being flightless birds and rarely venturing beyond the Zeta Sector or the Aves Belt, penguins developed some of the best high mobility combat oriented starships in the EdgeWorlds. The Gentoo series battleship is the most sought after. Celebrated for their modest profile, minimal crew requirements, advanced combat AIs, and efficient but powerful weapon systems, any pilot in the EdgeWorlds would jump at the chance to pilot one. 

The most well known Gentoo class ship was the Azure Flash, piloted by the legendary penguin, Ace Starborne. Ace was a peerless pilot known for his heroics and rapidly became both a hero and celebrity amongst the EdgeWorlds. 

After one last engagement with the feared Captain Death Head’s space pirate armada, Ace and the Azure Flash vanished. Their exact location and status remain unknown. After Aves’s destruction, many collectors and starship enthusiast wanted to get their hands on Gentoo ships. 

Many have attempted to replicate the Gentoo’s design and weapons systems to mixed results. Even the best replicas cannot vie with genuine originals. Edgy’s ship, the Vermillion, is a very well put together Gentoo replica and is based on surviving archived schematics of an original Gentoo, but it lacks the advanced AI.
